Covered in Threads!

At last, I've actually gotten some sewing done! A quick trip to Sydney to pick up my new No. 57 Quarter-Inch Patchwork Foot (THANKS, Jane Ann!), and I'm in business. As I mentioned, I think, this remake of an antique quilt is going to be completed and quilted in sections. As you see, I've finished all the blocks for the top of the queen size bed and just need to finish sewing them all together. Two sections are sewn, so when I complete the third, I'll quilt the entire top. Then I'll add the drop to the sides and the end, and voila...it will be the first quilt I've completed in Australia! So now, I'm covered in threads again and loving it. I'm sure none of YOU ever get covered in threads, do you? Hah, liars!

Hope I can keep my momentum on this quilt. I'm finding I'm getting tired of the soft colors already and thoughts of my Dear Jane and Lady of the Lake quilts keep intruding. I'm going to try to persevere, though.

Meanwhile, I've still not loaded the EQ6 upgrade I received a couple of weeks ago and that's definitely calling to me. Just not enough time in the day and too many social engagements this time of year.

Tomorrow is my In-Laws' 60th Wedding Anniversary Party...should be a wonderful time, and what a stellar achievement. Sixty years together is pretty amazing, if you ask me!

Neat! (I am so glad that your lady of the lake is scrappy int he points - I am planning one - with far fewer 1/2 triangles & was trying to decide wether or not to keep each block as a two fabric unit - nah...)

I always say I'm not suitable friend material for anyone who doesn't like thread and dog hair -- I'm perpetually covered in both *s*

You've made such progress - I'm impressed! I haven't quilted a top in sections before but with the smaller table on the longarm I'm considering trying to quilt a top and borders separately and then sew them together. I have several books that discuss various ways to do it but just haven't tried it yet.

All those little threads? I think they're tiny roots you're putting down in your new home. The last week or so MUST be making you feel back to normal at last, after a long, long journey. I'm happy for you.

Stop Me Before I Quilt Again!

What is this big pile of fabric and scraps, you may ask: Some you may recognize from the 10 Wishes quilt, but others are new. Yes, I've made a start on the Big Girl Quilt (i.e. queen-size) for Katie Rose. I've been so inspired by the lovely quilts Mary and her Heartstrings group have made that I decided to make one for Katie. Here's where I am -- two rows of string blocks made...four rows still unmade. I will sash these blocks with 2" sashing (don't know what fabric yet), making stars from the cornerstones (ditto). You can't really see the EQ design very well, I know...sorry. Here's a close-up of the first four blocks: Second four: Third four: It's really fun doing these. I love the colors...wanted them to be "girly" but not too bright. I will add a wide-ish border of some gorgeous fabric, yet to be discovered, I think. Sunday, Sunday...

Well, I'm going to try Tonya's suggestion and load my photos in the center instead of to the left, and see if that helps any with the spacing problems I'm having. So let's try putting up Dad's River Dreams Quilt that disappeared yesterday: Well, that seems to have worked...I think. So, let's add a couple of kids' quilts I've made over the years. Here's an I Spy for my grandkids. Can you see that I added their names, as a crossword puzzle, among the I Spy squares? Well, by gum! That seems to have worked, too...thanks, Tonya! Shall we go for a trifecta here? How about a little bluework quilt I did for my nephew. I found on-line coloring book images, printed them out and traced them on white fabric, then embroidered them in blue, setting them in stars afterward. I liked the result, and so did he: I'm on a roll now! What about one that was WAY outside my comfort zone. I'm not an orange person, but a friend in France had a baby girl. Mom loved ora

A Sad Farewell to the Best Old Friend

And so the time has come to say farewell to our little friend, Alfonse le Soot. He would have been 13 years old right about now. Those of you who have been reading this blog for awhile may remember his dramatic disappearance in July of 2008. And his equally dramatic return just over a month later. No explanation was ever found for his disappearance, but we were so happy to have him home. In late March of this year we made a trip to California, only to have the terrible news from our wonderful house-sitter, Judy, that Alfonse had collapsed and had to be rushed to the vet the day after we left. The vet tried mightily to save our little fellow, but he had experienced sudden heart failure resulting in a clot that paralyzed his hind legs. After three heart-rending days and a steadily worsening condition, the decision had to be made to let him go. We returned to Australia two days ago and today, with heavy hearts, we picked up Alfonse’s ashes, brought him home and buried him in his final res
