California Girl in Oz

First full day in Zurich, a Sunday, and WOW has it been hot!  We saw a high of 96 F., and even on the ferry out to Rapperswil and back it was very hot...especially on the return voyage. Here is the lovely view as we floated along.  You can see the Alps a bit, even with the extreme heat haze.  Blogger doesn't want to cooperate and let me arrange these sequentially, but I wanted to include the scenes along the water and the lovely Rose Garden in Rapperwil.  Enjoy!

Thought I'd start a little travelogue for our trip.  Left yesterday, June 28, for the start of our big European adventure. Caught a ride with the lovely Carol direct from Glen Ellen to the Palace Hotel in SF.  Had a walk down to the Ferry Building, then back for a snack at the Palace before heading to SF for our Swiss Air flight to Zurich. Great flight, perfect, in fact -- even got to see Bohemian Rhapsody in flight. Arrived, fumbled around the airport to find the correct train to our hotel, then out for a walk to Lake Zurich.  Hot, hot, hot, at around 92 F. Dinner at a sidewalk cafe, a stroll back to the hotel, nightcap in the bar (an excellent Swiss Pinot Noir from Sion), and to bed. Up early (6AM) ready for what the day presents...we're thinking a ferry ride around Lake Zurich, and a visit to the Zurich University Botanical Garden this afternoon.  Going to be very hot again today (92 F.)

It's years since I tried posting anything to my blog.  Maybe the time has come to resurrect it?  Anyway, I'll give it a try.  Facebook has really put a crimp in my need to document comings, goings and doings, but lately it seems like there's so much extraneous stuff on my FB feed, maybe it's time to return to my blogging roots. We are in California at the moment, preparing for a big jaunt to Europe in two weeks' time.  Trying to get my walking mojo back, so I can make the most of the time overseas and not feel too pooped.  Maybe the walking is a good place to start with this blog post. A couple of pics from yesterday's walk in Glen Ellen's Regional Park, with very hot temperatures expected later in the day, so a relatively early start -- 8:20AM.  Should have started earlier! Here are a couple of pics I took earlier in the week, a shot I was lucky to get of an incredible frog in the pond in the regional park...
