After a fairly vigorous day yesterday, hiking for Ross and a long walk for me, we decided to take it easy today and just ride the ferry from Weggis out to Brunnen and back.  A glorious, sunny end to our stay in Weggis.  Tomorrow it's on to Geneva. Loved the look of this gracious old hotel.  Wonder what it would be like to stay here!  Every village we saw had a beautiful old church tower. The red shutters on the lovely old brown house were closed.  Wonder if the owners live and work in Zurich or another bigger city, and they just use this place as a weekender.  Arriving in Brunnen, the views of the Alps still have bits of snow visible. Beautiful ferries shuttling back and forth every hour. We were puzzled by this vehicle, part motorcycle, part automobile.  Walking along the shoreline, the view subtly changes as you go. Back on the ferry for the return trip to Weggis, a couple of hours after we arrived in Brunnen, the sun was even...

Ross set off this morning to climb Mt. Rigi, once the early morning rainstorm had ended.  The morning was gloriously cool after the extreme heat of the past few days.  I haven't got trekking poles with me, and there isn't a sporting goods store in Weggis, so I'm limited to walking around the lake.  Luckily, there is nothing but beauty everywhere! Couldn't resist this old barn, way up on the top of a hill...  The gardens in Weggis are absolutely gorgeous.  The seven heat hasn't discouraged the blossoms!  The architecture continues to enchant me, too.  Decided a little bit of climbing wouldn't hurt, so I braved the streets going up the hill, though they are pretty darned steep.  The glorious colors and textures in the gardens kept me going. Leaving Zurich yesterday morning on the train for Lucerne and then the ferry to Weggis, we appreciated the overnight rainstorm that cooled things off a bit.  As the day went on, the heat rose again, and by the time we arrived in Weggis it was quite hot and humid again. Leaving Zurich's Hauptbahnhof, we were distracted by this display at Sprungli, but resisted temptation! On ro Lucerne, where we wandered around the lovely city, along with many other tourists.  The day was very warm, but if you could find a shady spot the light breeze kept us comfortable.  Lunch alongside the river, and then on to the ferry. Beautiful Lucerne was looking glorious in the sun... We had lunch under the yellow umbrella at the left of this photo... And then on to Weggis by ferry.  The lovely Beau Rivage, our home for the next 3 nights. Still very warm, but as evening fell a lovely breeze began.  By 9:20 PM, the view from our room was stunning...
