A Coronavirus Quarantine Journal, Day 9

After the drama of Day 8, Day 9 was pretty much a piece of cake.   We did need to await our results from the swabbing the day before, but had every confidence all was well, and that proved to be the case...no virus.

The day started, as is now usual, with our simple Continental Breakfast...are you impressed that we've stuck to our guns and are avoiding the eggs and bacon routine?  As you see, we are making some progress through that lovely chunk of Ash Brie:

Monday's menu was also included for our selection:

A special treat of the day was a nice 90 minute Zoom visit with cousin Joe, and Marc, in California...so great to catch up with them!  Not really fair, though, because Joe was toasting us with his wine (or maybe something stronger?) while it was 11AM for us here in Sydney!  Too early to party hearty.

Lunch was a real treat...I'm telling you, those smoked chicken sambos with a ton of rocket and other goodies hiding inside, were just great.  And I have to confess, I whipped right through the dessert, too -- a surprise treat for me:  Caramel tart with chocolate topping, on a shortbread base...positively sinful!

During the afternoon we got the good news that our Covid-19 swab tests were negative, along with the surprise info that we'll need to be swabbed AGAIN on Day 10.  Apparently their protocol prescribes Day 10 testing, to allow time for your results to be back before we are sprung from the hotel on Day 14.  An abundance of caution, perhaps, given that we'd been swabbed on Day 8, but they really are taking a conservative approach to the testing in Australia, no doubt contributing to the excellent low infection and death rates experienced here.  At least we know the drill now, and won't be feeling any anxiety about how it all happens.

Dinner included a nice little treat:  Gazpacho to start, one of our favorites. It was spicy and delicious.  Ross enjoyed his Lamb Souvlaki Skewer, but my Mushroom and Pea Risotto was on the bland side...but then, I'm not a fan of risotto.  Wonder why I ticked that box, anyway?  Passed on the Creme Caramel dessert, after my lunchtime indulgence.

And the Tuesday menu was included in our dinnertime bag...exciting, because that will be our last full day's menu while we're here.  If all goes as expected, we'll be heading for home on Wednesday!  Apparently, after a final check to be sure we're healthy, we can leave the hotel at 12:01AM on May 20.  Which means that my final Journal entry will happen from home, when I can report to you all the final events of this quarantine experience...whoopee!    Hmmmm...wonder if Adora can deliver delicious, piping hot lattes and chokkies to Bowral...

I was toasting you with bourbon (good 'ol "corn whiskey")! Your meals are impressive. Glad they're taking such good care of you during this time.

Whew, what a relief to get negative test results. What a pain to be swabbed again though. I hear it is quite unpleasant. You are dining like kings during your incarceration!
